Taylor Observatory is honored to have Prof. Philip Scherrer of Stanford University speak on "The Sun Inside and Out" at the February Window to the Universe event. Prof. Scherrer has desinged instrumention for the NASA Orbiting Solar Dynamics Observatory. His world-renowned research program gives him a unique perspective on scientific studies involving the sun, both from satellite and earty-based observations.
Sponsored by the Friends of Taylor, the event includes the presentation, a planetarium show, and telescope viewing, weather permitting. Admission is $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 12 and under.
The evening at Taylor begins with a planetarium show at 7:15, followed by the lecture at 8:00 pm and a second planetarium show around 9:00. Telescope viewing will begin after the talk, weather permitting . With the waxing moon still below the horizon at show-time, observations through the Taylor’s telescopes should be good, with Jupiter just coming into view in the east, and a number of nebula and galaxies visible in the dark Lake County skies.
